Heater Not working
The reason why the heater does not work or is slow at heating up, is due to hard water. and the build up of grit, grime and scale. This stops or slows the impeller from working in the heater flow switch. If you follow these instructions your flow switch can be cleaned. We reccommend you do this each time you clean and drain your spa. ( at least once every 3 months) FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS
- remove access panels unde recliner
- locate heater under recliner
- turn off power at mains
- turn off water flow to and from heater ( red handles x 2 )
- remove cover from heater ( 6 screws)
- locate flow switch on left hand side ( sticker shows flow switch)
- remove 4 screws from head of flow switch
- remove cicuit board ( with 3 wies attached )
- remove black gasket
- remove black seal with flat head screw driver
- remove & clean white plastic impeller from chamber
- clean out chamber with small brush ( pipe in & out as well )
- replace white plastic impeller
- replace black plastic seal
- replace black gasket
- replace circuit board
- replace head to flow switch
- do not over tighten the head
- replace metal heater cover
- open the water valves (red handles x 2)
- replace cabinet access panel
- turn on spa at mains
- Press red button on lcd display
- press heat key on display
- set temperature required
- wait for spa to reheat.
- ensure hard cover is on spa when heating
Inital Set up of the Californian spa
- Fill spa with water upto the head rest - No lower
- Water capacity is 1500 litres
- Use qualified electrican to hard wire the spa
- Check all pump valves on the water pumps - tighten as required
- Open overflow pipe
- turn on Spa at mains
- Turn on Spa on LCD display ( red button )
- Set the temperature of the spa ( default is 37c)
- check each pump in order
- open Jets & remove jets where required
- Add chemicals as per instructions
- make sure the HEAT button is pressed on - ( spa will warm up )
- place cover over spa and leave to warm up
Setting the water Heater.
The heater on the californian spa works two ways. On the control there is an Heat Set & a Heat Button. We need to turn off the Heat Set button to OFF. ( why ) >> "Heat set" only works at a set time or a duration of time, the spa will heat up at 2 degreees per hour - where as when the heater is off the spa will also cool down at the same rate, So if "HEATSET" ( H-ON) is on only - The spa will never warm up to the desired temp! "HEATSET" is working the heater at the times the clients wants, but if you do not set the lenght of time for it to work, it will never work correct. It is meant only to take the chill off the water and works better in warmer climates.
Correct way of operating the spa to heat up water. Look on the LCD display unit
- PRESS RED BUTTON - (SPA OFF- STANDBY)
- PRESS HEAT OFF - SHOW "H-OFF" WAIT 5 SECONDS
- PRESS RED BUTTON - ( SPA ON ) PRESS HEAT BUTTON - ( THERMOSTAT ICON IN LCD ON OR FLASHING)
- PRESS FUN BUTTON -
- PRESS TUN +/- TO SET TEMP TO 37C
- If the water temp is lower than 37c at this stage then water pump 3 will come on until the water reaches the desired temp, once at 37c the pump (3) will turn off. While pump 3 in on & heating the water - it will also filter the water through corner filter unit.
FILTER >>> If this does not solve the problem with the heater, I suggest you look at your filter in the spa. The filter must be cleaned and changed once a week, The filter must be cleaned with filter cleaner, and the filter can only be replaced into the spa when the filter is dry I suggest you have a spare filter so you can always operate the spa. Never run your spa without the filter. The heater will also fail due to the hardness of your water, if the water in your area is like this, then use a softener,
Setting the filter operations
- press red button - turn off spa press cycle set - C On - wait 5 seconds the spa is now in a filter mode - it will come on every 6 hours for a period upto 30 minutes. When the spa is in the heat mode - the spa is also on a filter cycle
Chemicals >>> The spa will also fail due to the failure of the chemicals, please ensure the chemicals are added to balance the water, to find out how to use your chemicals click this link http://www.southwestspa.net/maintenancemain.html
Adding chemicals in the spa >>> Never add chemicals directly into the spa, always fully disolve & dilute them in warm water first. Always use water softener in the spa water, as there can be a build up of cal / hardness in the heater element.
The water level >>>on the spa must always be upto the headrests, the spa should never be operated with water below this level.
Air Blower << Each time you use the air blower the power trips off - There is an overflow pipe on the spa. This must always be left open, so if any excess water on the air blower pipes will escape - If the overflow pipe is closed the water will back fill to the air blower and short out.
PumpValves <<< From the start at each service of your spa, all water pumps valves must be hand tightened up, Over time the water pressure may loosen the valves, and water may escape, causing the pump to get wet, and the spa to short out
Important note < Once all the above things have been looked at, and still the heater is not working, ( please allow at least 24 hours to heater to work) We can arrange for a replacement heater at a cost of £395 + shipping if out side the warranty period. Please supply your full postal address & details. here is a link to the parts & accessories page. http://www.southwestspa.net/accessories.html

please note we do not offer a labour warranty on our spas. http://www.southwestspa.net/partswarranty.html
If the spa / pump has an electrical leakage
There are two reasons for the electrical leakage :
The leakage volts is comming from the metal shell of the machine or Spa water.
A. when the spa is working, please use an ampmeter , place one sensor on the metal shell by the pump, another place the other sensor on the floor, if the ampmeter shows there is the leakage of volts , it means the power connection is a bad connection , the ground wire is not connected , ask the electrician to re-connect the power, and keep sure the circuit wire is correct for the amps required.
B. When the spa is working ,please use an ampmeter, place one sensor in the spa water, and the other sensor place it on the floor, if the ampmeter shows 6~15 Volts, it is within a safety voltage. ( The voltage is within the periods in 0~36V, it is a safety volts) We have done a test and Passed CE testing, the leakage volts in the water of our spas always in the 6~15Volts.
We have the Electric Box which is installed by the control system ( mother board) box inside the spa , this is an electrical circut breaker , the leakage electric current is no more than 30MA, for the spa to stop working , and make sure the leakage volts in the water is no more than 36A , to keep the spa within safety. Now you may ask again about the leakage of volts into the water, where is it coming from ? it is from the water line sensor ,
if you want the leakage volts to be 0, you can cut the two water line sensor wires, and make them short circuit connection . I've attached a photo for you, can you see the two water line sensors, after you make them short circuit connection between these two water line sensors, you need to make sure the water level must be always higher than the waterline, then the spa will work normally.

WHAT ARE THE REASONS FOR THESE FEATURE.
Feature 1 means PR9130A status, - water pump 1 , water pump 2, water pump 3, the blower, and heater can work at the same time.
Feature 2 means PR9130B status, water pump 1, water pump 2 & the air blower will work at the same time; but once water pump 1, or water pump 2, or the air blower are working, water pump 3 will not work ; if the heater starts to work or turns on, then water pump 1 , water pump 2 and the air blower stop working .
Feature 3 means PR9130C status, water pump 1, water pump 2, & water pump 3 and the air blower will work at the same time, but once the heater starts to work, water pump 1, water pump 2 and the air blower will stop working.
These three Features of 1-2-3- switch the spa to different operating modes |
